Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Announced
Updated: Dec 30, 2022
The Pokemon Company held a Pokemon Direct on February 27, 2022 and the news was nothing I could have guessed. Just one month after the release of Pokemon: Legends Arceus, they announced Generation 9 with Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.

TRAILER
The announcement trailer gives us a brief look at the new region, showing fields full of Pokemon, new cities, the main protaginist, and the three new starters: Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.

I'm going to be totally honest, I love the look of Fuecoco and Quaxly. Sprigatito looks like Litten's long lost sibling, but I still like the design. If I had to name a favourite, I would have to say Quaxly, this Pokemon looks like a cross between Howard the Duck and Mario and I can only imagine his evolutions will look even cooler. As someone who usually chooses the fire starter this is going to be a very difficult choice.
As of now there are very few details that we know, although, I did see that the games will not be releasing with a full Pokédex, getting the Sword and Shield treatment and will only be able to keep track if you have every Pokemon within Pokemon Home. This is very unfortunate news, but in the end it doesn't matter too much as I'm mostly excited for what new Pokemon the team has come up with.
After a very disappointing Generation 8 with Sword and Shield I'm very excited to see if Game Freak and the Pokemon Company can ride the success of Pokemon: Legends Arceus to truly give us the open world Pokemon game fans of the franchise have been wanting for so long. As of now Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are aiming for a late 2022 release on the Nintendo Switch and I look forward to hearing more details in the coming months.
